How the pilot project works with the NSW Housing Code

The EHC pilot project will demonstrate how technology can assist in the efficient processing of NSW Housing Code applications; creating an electronic environment where the Housing Code ‘rules’ will be delivered by a common set of processes and protocols to make an application. It should be noted that these 'Electronic Housing Code’ applications (for lots greater than 200m2) will be a sub-set of the broader set of applications that may be made under the Housing Code.

Use of Code-based applications also aligns with a key NSW planning system reform for the greater use of exempt and complying development to assist in fast-tracking approval processes. This contributes to housing affordability through time and cost savings by reducing:
  • the resources needed to prepare, monitor and evaluate proposals
  • holding costs through faster processing and approval times.

Inevitably, there will be feedback from stakeholders in relation to the content of the Electronic Housing Code. The e-Planning team are supported by the advice and experience of the Codes team and will work with stakeholders and the Codes team to inform the policy setting and pass on valuable feedback where appropriate. To provide feedback to the Codes team please call 1300 305 695.
